Bounce House Safety Tips Every Parent Should Know

Keeping Kids Safe While Having Fun

Bounce houses are one of the safest and most fun activities for kids when proper safety guidelines are followed. As a company trusted by the Tampa Police Department, USF, Tampa General Hospital, and dozens of local schools for over 13 years, safety is our #1 priority. Here’s everything parents need to know.

The #1 Safety Rule: Adult Supervision

The single most important safety factor is having a responsible adult actively watching the bounce house at all times. Not just nearby — actively watching. Most bounce house injuries happen when kids of vastly different sizes are bouncing together unsupervised.

Age and Size Grouping

One of the biggest causes of bounce house injuries is mixing kids of very different sizes:

  • Toddlers (2-4 years) should bounce separately from older kids
  • Kids 5-8 can bounce together safely
  • Kids 9-12 should have their own bounce time
  • Teenagers/Adults should only use units rated for their weight

Set up a rotation schedule at your party so different age groups get their own bounce time. Trust us — it makes a huge difference!

Maximum Capacity Matters

Every bounce house has a maximum capacity posted on it. Our standard 13×13 units hold 6-8 kids at a time. Resist the temptation to let more kids in — overcrowding is a leading cause of collisions and injuries.

Weather Safety

In Tampa, weather can change quickly. Here are our weather guidelines:

  • Wind: Bounce houses should not be used in winds over 15 mph
  • Rain: Light drizzle is okay, but heavy rain makes surfaces slippery
  • Lightning: All inflatables must be evacuated immediately at the first sign of lightning
  • Heat: Ensure kids stay hydrated and take break periods. Wet units stay cooler in summer

Setup Safety Checklist

A reputable rental company (like us!) handles all of this, but it’s good to know:

  • Unit is properly staked or weighted down on every anchor point
  • Blower is connected and running continuously
  • Entry/exit area is clear and cushioned
  • No sharp objects, shoes, glasses, or jewelry worn inside
  • No food or drinks inside the bounce house
  • No flips or roughhousing

What to Look for in a Rental Company

When choosing a bounce house rental company in Tampa, ask about:

  • Insurance: Do they carry commercial liability insurance? (We do — $1M per occurrence)
  • Cleaning: How do they sanitize between rentals? (We use commercial-grade, child-safe solutions)
  • Inspections: Are units regularly inspected? (Every unit is checked before each delivery)
  • Training: Are delivery crews trained in proper setup? (Our team is fully trained and certified)
  • Reviews: What do other customers say? (Check our 390+ five-star Google reviews!)

At Bounce House of Tampa, safety isn’t just a policy — it’s our culture. Every unit is cleaned, inspected, and properly installed by our trained team. Questions about safety? Call us anytime at (813) 400-6007.

If you are taking measurements for a structure such as a building or fence, please provide the height of the structure here. If height does not apply to the wash, for instance for a gutter wash, leave this field empty. Please note if you enter a value here after taking measurements, you will need to take measurements again.
